This Day in Military History
20 May 1969: After ten assaults, exhausted U.S. and South Vietnamese forces finally took Hill 937, Dong Ap Bia. Combined U.S./South Vietnamese casualties were 103 killed (72 Americans) and more than 400 injured. The North Vietnamese saw more than 650 killed. “Hamburger Hill” was the nickname of American servicemen for Hill 937 due to the bloody hand-to-hand combat.
