May 14, 1942: Congress passed a law making women eligible for non-combat duties in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC), Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service (WAVES), Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS) and Coast Guard or Semper Paratus Always Ready Service (SPARS), the Women’s Reserve of the Marine Corps.
